Hi,
This is my first post to the forum.
I'm looking for a route from Mt Tootie to the Wollangambe/Colo confluence as part of a much longer trek. Google Earth shows a fire trail going most of the way, winding along the ridges in a NNE direction. I wonder if anyone has a preferred route from this trail down to the Wollangambe? I know this area has many cliffs, and I neither want to fall, nor abseil, down any of them!
For a private reply you can hit me on globe5ATSYMBOLaanet.com.au.
Thanks,
Ballantyne

Hi Ballantyne
I walked this route a couple of times 20 years ago.
Has the firetrail grown over?
The first walk we drove out along it in a Torana XU1!
Anyway nothing too difficult if you head off the end down to the confluence.
Could you put up a trip report?
I would be interested in the access as the Mt Tootie property has been subdivided.
Happy trails
John

The Wollangambe/Colo junction is one of the remoter places in the biggest wilderness area in the state. When asking questions like this, it's probably worth providing some background on your experience. For example, what walking have you already done in the Wollangambe/Colo area and what exploratory walking have you done.
Have you checked out existing known resources like the Colo (Bob Buck's) Sketch Map, or Brian Corlis' Colo River Passes and Routes? Both of these have notes on routes.

Ah thanks folks. Will include my background next time. I will buy the Corlis book. I read on the Fat Canyoners review that it is based on Bob Turners sketch map. Do I need both?
Will post a report when I have reconnoitred.

Brian Corlis' notes are probably sufficient, but if you are interested in maps and history, the Bob Buck map is also worthwhile. The Corlis guide may be out of print, but you can always visit the State Library to review it.

Or more correctly - Bob Buck and Geoff Daley's Colo Sketch Map

Corlis reports he's reprinting in June 2015. Buck Daley, appears to be out of print.

Last time we did that walk - and it was a few years ago I admit, there did not seem much likelhood of the dirt road becoming overgrown any time soon.
At the end, do NOT attempt to descend directly to the junction. Or take a parachute.
Instead head down a bit to the left, maybe 1/2 km upstream of the junction. That way is much kinder.
Cheers
Roger

I once walked about half a mile up Bowens and struck up from there and came to Mt. Tootie without much trouble.

Are there any issues crossing private property around Mt Tootie to gain access to Bowen Hill Trail?
