I'm interested in doing the Narrow Neck to Tarros Ladder return track tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone has done it, and how difficult and dangerous Tarros ladder actually is? I can't seem to find much about it online.

The spikes are not difficult , but they are fairly exposed & some people are uncomfortable with the climb. You can bypass the climb by following the cliff around to the left.

There are two photos of Tarros Ladders, showing the spikes and the staples. Both offer good handholds and footholds, although quite widely spaced. There are also various footholds on the rock, so you don't need to depend entirely on the aids.

Here is a picture looking up from the bottom. Pictures tend to make Tarros Ladder look a bit more difficult than it really is, although a line to haul packs up is a good idea rather than climbing with them on. The ledge with the tree makes a good staging point to haul the packs to, then from there to the top.

Agree with Lindsay. Photos make it look very challenging but once you are there the way is pretty clear. A line definitely a good idea.

Have regularly done it at night with a weekend pack, sometimes with a small torch in my mouth (a saliva torch ),
other times just by moonlight. No real problems if you take care. Great views of the stored water and across to the High Gangerangs and the Blue Breaks.
