I'm planning to walk in to Cowombat Flat from the Benambra (W) side this summer. Where is the actual NW end of the Black-Allan Line? On Google Earth, the end appears to be 600m NW of Forest Hill cairn, which is often listed as the end of the line, or the top of the most Easterly tributary. Thanks
Kip

I think it's the spring around half a km from the cairn. The actual wording of their instructions was '...to the nearest source of the Murray", which is that spring.

The spring also matches their description of where the cairn is relative to the end of the line.
But the official (mapped) border line continues in a straight line until it hits the junction of intermittent streams. Basically, they are assuming that the water from the spring flows in a straight line towards that junction rather than following the lie of the land.
