As of this morning, a large number of NSW national parks and reserves have been completely shut due to the current bushfire situation and a forecast of potentially catastrophic fire conditions in the coming days.
The closures are in place until Thursday morning, but could be extended. Penalties will apply to anyone entering a closed park.
If you are planning any bushwalks in the coming days, ensure you check the NPWS alerts page before to confirm the area you are visiting is open: https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/alerts/alerts-list.
A total fire ban is also in place for today and Tuesday, but again, expect these to be added for coming days. Park fire bans are in place for many parks even when total fire bans are not.
The Rural Fire Service has also released an unprecedented warning of catastrophic fire danger for the greater Sydney and Hunter areas on Tuesday due to forecast high temperatures and strong winds.
Stay safe out there!
