bikes on Sydney trains

I've been thinking of taking my bike so I can more quickly cover distances along walk access fire trails.

Has anyone taken a bike on a Sydney train long distance? Eg central to blue mountains. I don't want to stand with it for 2+ hours especially with my pack as well.. Does anyone know if its possible to chain the bike to a post at the carriage entrance?(not obstructing the doors) and then find a seat in the carriage.

You'll be right. If you're worried, take your bike into the carriage so you can keep your eye on it. The country staff are chilled.

Many of the Blue Mountains carriages have a place to hang a bicycle next to one of the doors. Just avoid peak hour and you'll be fine.

Thanks guys.

Is there something I could chain it to on the bike rack/hanging post?

Not really. If you want just chain wheel to frame or wheel to wheel and that will slow someone down enough for you to catch them.

As well as avoiding peak hour - unless in the reverse direction, avoid school holidays particularly the start and finish.

TfNSW's notes on bijes: https://transportnsw.info/travel-info/u ... surfboards

Note that Sydney - Blue Mts is not considered Regional. This will be an intercity service.

'Regional' trains are a PITA for bicycles! Bicycle must be boxed - and the box has limited dimensions. Boxes are supposed to be available at train stations (good luck with that)... better off in India where you can pay someone to wrap it for you.

You can get to Lithgow, Musswellbrook and Golburn without using 'regional' trains... just be careful of the service you select.
