Mt Solitary Loop updates?

Postby DJ Wombat » Mon 26 Aug, 2024 2:58 pm

Our group is planning a day hike on Mt Solitary loop track in late Sep. Have anyone been there lately?

We found this alert on NSWNP site "Ruined Castle, Golden Stairs, Solitary loop and Federal Pass, west of Scenic World are closed due to multiple landslides."

I wonder if the circuit is broken? Or just the access points such as Golden Stairs are inaccessable? If the later, we can still get down to the circle via alternative access such as Leura Cascades.
best,

If you want more details, best to call the NPWS office (probably the Blackheath one). But basically it's saying no go west of Scenic World.

Thanks Tom. People from BM Heritage Centre told me the loop closed between Ruined Castle and Scenic World.
They don't know exactly what happened to the track and what the progress is. They need updates from workers.

Good to know - would be useful if they could give a vague timeframe (weeks/months) given it's a fairly popular area.

Fully agree with Tom on the NPWS providing a time frame.

I've also spoken to the Heritage Centre about this issue and they said they didn't have any additional information which is extremely frustrating! Obviously if we call them, we've already checked the website and are looking for a rough eta/ more detailed update etc.

They said 'Regarding west of Scenic World, we have not been provided with details of when this area will re-open. This will be updated on the website when re-opened.'

Hi, has anyone heard any news on when this might reopen? Keen to put it on the calendar.

Was given an estimate by a parks person last weekend - 4-5 months.
