Patons Hut

Postby Fleb » Fri 27 Sep, 2024 8:33 am

Morning Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone knows if Patons hut is open at the moment? Thinking about heading up there next early next week for a few nights and just wanted to check before driving up.

Anyone seen any dogs up there recently?

Cheers,

Phil

Parks say the hut and track are open but "...and Tooma Road, is closed between Khancoban and Cabramurra from the June and October long weekends."
I'd say hold off until the long weekend.

Haven't been there recently but I've never seen a dog in that area. I'm sure they are around but the only dogs I've seen anywhere in the park are lone Dingos.

Yeah closed until Thursday it turns out. Any suggestions for a Hut for a small hike in I could do over the weekend?

Do you mean: "is the road open"? AFAIK the hut is always open, but tooma Rd is seasonally closed? (I think next weekend's long weekend is when it reopens, butnot certain?)

Yeah figured the Hut would be open but only close access i can see is via tooma rd unless you know another way in? Looking almost everything is closed, i only have 4 days free and unluckily they are over this weekend

If you have something like a Subaru Outback, you could get to Gungarlin River campground and head up to Davies Hut which is nice. Plus go exploring. There's a few ruins and Botherham Plains hut (shed).

Broken Dam Hut is another but it's a 10klm 600m ascent on the 4 Mile Trail.

Teddys Hut or Cascades Hut (popular) are other options.

That is an awesome help, i think it will be there or Westermans Hut i think. Do you know if Westermans is closed to 4WD now?

I owe you a beer if we ever meet on the trail (or a whisky as beer too heavy to take)

Westermans itself is closed for repair, or at least it was 6 months ago. Even when it reopens, you can't drive there. But you can walk there, just can't go inside.

Still, there are some nice campgrounds nearby and an excellent loop walk, where you can visit Brayshaws and Waterhole Huts and Westermans.
