Jamison Valley to Kedumba via Jamison Creek

Postby Uncle Pennybags » Thu 06 Mar, 2025 2:48 pm

Hi all,
I was hoping to receive a bit of advice as to whether a route from Wentworth Falls to Kedumba is possible via Jamison Creek. There is nothing I loathe more than walking on fire trails.

Has anyone done it recently? Any tips or advice?

(To get in front of the press, I am aware of the present closures to Vera and Hippocrene)

Thanks!

AFAIK Jamison Ck from Wenty is a steep bushbash.

One longer, arduous & navigationally challenging alternative is along National Pass (check closures at https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/vi ... cal-alerts) to Sublime Pt, descend steeply at first to follow a v. faint track down the ridge to F/T on Sublime Pt Ridge. From there you have options -
- follow F/T all the way to Kedumba
- follow F/T to Jamison Ck & bash down there for 5+km
- follow F/T for 2km SE to Jamison Ck and head up to Mt Solitary along the less dense ridges to reach it up Miners Pass, then descend Mt Sol to reach Kedumba (long & arduous)
- follow F/T for 5km to signposted track to Mt Sol. Follow it to Kedumba River, then bash 2km down the River to Kedumba

Or -
- go in via Kedumba Pass & use the Goat Track to avoid a few km of F/T
- go in from Double Hill via Lions Head & Kedumba Walls Trail - this has 0km of F/T & mostly reasonable single track.

None of these route are for the faint hearted.

I took a small SUBW group down Jameson Creek from Hippocrene Falls down to the ford (and exited via sublime point fire trail) about 10 years ago. We mostly walked along the banks and occasionally walked in the water (it was a hot day) I don't remember any major obstacles. We did seen occasional evidence of prior visitors e.g. stone fire rings.

On a separate trip around the same time I went from the ford down the short distance to kedumba River (was a bit scrubby) and then down to the solitary walking track crossing which was mostly walking on open banks. There was one very interesting tessellated section I remember.
