3 Day Walking Tracks Near Around ACT & NSW Region

Postby Clarrie » Sun 04 May, 2025 5:40 pm

Hi everyone,
I'm planning a 3-day, 2-night bushwalking trip in early July with a group of six mates. We're looking for challenging hikes with great views within about 2 hours’ drive from the ACT (up to 3 hours max if it's really worth it).

We’ll carry all our gear and have ways to purify water, so remote tracks without refill points are fine, especially if a river is nearby. Ideally, the trail would include places to camp along the way (formal or informal), and interesting features like caves or lookout points would be a bonus.

We're fine with snow or cold conditions, so alpine trails are definitely on the table, as long as they're safe and accessible.

Something from Wog Wog into Morton NP might suit. You can extend something like this:https://bushwalkingnsw.com/walk.php?nid=817

A day walk to Mt Tarn or Mt Cole, and then if you look up the Keep Corang Open Facebook group, you can see options for a different way to walk out.

The OP will not be able to drive to Round Mountain in 'early July.'

Tom's suggestion ticks all the boxes. The classic Wog Wog to either Burumbeet (cave) or Bibbenluke (camp) for a 2 night base camp, with a trip to Mt Owen, Castle and/or Monolith valley on the middle day would be perfect. And (again as Tom says) a return via the cascades/rock ribs on the last day, using the new track around the private property back to Goodsell Creek and then to Wog Wog would provide some variety (having seen Corang Peak and arch on the way in)

Note that The Castle and Cooroyoo camp (sp?) is closed from June to Nov this year
