I am trying to plan a 2 or 3 day walk around the Kanangra Walls this Sept, but am not really finding much detailed info online.
Can anyone tell me if this book is worth purchasing?

I've had the fifth edition of that book for many years along with edition three of volume two. Yes they are both worth getting IMHO, I use them regularly. One of them has been revised in the past couple of years. Sadly I've done almost no walking from K. Walls myself, but the following trips of 2 or more days are covered:

Vol. 1
K. Walls - Gingra Creek - Kowmung River - 2 days
K. Walls - Brumby Ridge - Kowmung River - 2 days
K. Walls - Hughes Ridge - Kowmung R. - Roots Ridge - 2 days
K. Walls - Kowmung R. - Kiaramba Spring - 3 days

Vol. 2
K. Walls - Mt Cloudmaker - Dex Creek - 2 days
K. Walls - Katoomba - 3 days
K. Walls - Bullhead Ridge - Cambage Spire - Kowmung R. - 2 days
K. Walls - Kowmung R. via the Uni Rover Trail - 2 days

For an online resource try Tom Brennan's excellent ozultimate.com site. He has documented some Kanangra trips here:

Thanks a bunch for that johnw,
Sounds like they're exactly what I'm after. I've found the sixth edition (2007) of both volumes at my local library & plan to check them out this week!

Hi nothingwmn,

For a three day I can thoroughly recommend:

Day 1: From the Walls down to the Kowmung via Gambage Spire

Day 2: "Floaty" or Lilo down the Kowmung to the base of any of the spurs/ridges that can be used to ascend to the Walls (for this ensure that there is enough water in the Kowmung to make this possible and not so much flow as to make it hazardous and, if the weather is cool, at least a short "wettie" to prevent hypothermia).

Day 3: Ascend selected spur/ridge.

Take a water resistant camera and, if the “Brownies” are active, a stick, as they will swim out to greet you.

Cheers, Pterodactyl

Thanks for the suggestions, but after reading through the excellent guidebooks, we have decided on a 2 day route:
KANANGRA WALLS – FIRST TOP MOUNTAIN – BRUMBY RIDGE – ORANGE BLUFF then returning via ROOTS RIDGE.

Anyone done this one before?

You've chosen well for a first time trip out there, but just be aware there's been a lot of rain in recent weeks and the Kowmung is fast flowing.
Do not, I repeat, do not, try to cross it in those conditions.
It can be a bugger if the level is above the waist and you don't have some tape.

I've been walking this area continuously for 15 years, including many times this year, any questions, just ask.

A favourite of mine is down to the Kowmung via the tops then back via stockmans spur and Mt Cloudmaker. It can be done as a two day walk if you push it but it is also a good three day walk.
