Just wondering if there is much point in taking a GPS on the Great North Walk.
I'll be doing Somersby store to Heaton gap in a few weeks.
I'm slowly chipping away at the total walk and have yet required a GPS to find a track turn etc, Everything seems very well sign posted and the maps from Wild Walks are great.

Is the trail reasonably well marked between Somersby and Heaton ??

I have good nav skills and maps / compass etc.

No need for your GPS.

Hi Forest
Hope you are enjoying the walk, The Somersby to Heaton Gap has some nice sections, and a chuck of road.
It is generally well signposted, (as most of the walk is). If you are cool with a map and Compass, you will not need a GPS. Generally speaking the signs are so often you may not even use your maps or notes in the field.

BTW in the wildwalks tracknotes (online, not on the PDF) there are little numbers (references) scattered throughout the notes. So if the notes refer to a sign, you should then be able to click on the reference and see a photo of the sign. Maybe handy if you want to reassure yourself.
