Lake south of Mt Kelly in Namadgi?

Anyone know if this lake still exists somewhere on the range between Mt Kelly and Mt Scabby? I knew of a party who found it in the late '90's but wondered if it survived the drought and the fires?

Scabby Tarn maybe? Just talking about it yesterday with a mate. know some blokes who walked there from the Old Bobeyan Rd a couple of years ago. google it and you will find several refs, may be the lake you're looking for.

I've looked it up and Scabby Tarn it is although it seems that it might now be dry? Certainly it held water in 1999 but not in 2006? Must get up there and check it out. I found a couple of charming photos on the net of a party that found it full back in '99. Looks a lovely spot.

Hi Kanangra,

I am sure John Evans would know you can contact him through his blog Johnny Boy's Walkabout Blog

It was still there when I walked past in late 2006, albeit dry (like everywhere else). Here's a photo:

I was wondering how you got on with locating this lake. Have you managed to walk in and if so what route?

Hi all,

I lead the party of three that visited the lake in 1999. Here's a link to the photo's, scanned from slide film, remember that? http://www.pbase.com/ralphandkylie/mtsc ... e&page=all

I just joined Bushwalk Australia so I could write this post. Hopeful it won't be my last.

I found this thread after Googling Mt Scabby because I'm planning to return there for the third time hopefully summer 2013/14. Why am I planning that far ahead? Because I live in Barcelona and only get back once every three years! I'm a Canberra boy, Namadgi is one of my favourite places on earth and every three years I do a three or four day walk there with a couple of mates. It's been interesting getting a three yearly snapshot of the recovery from the 2003 fires.

We camped a night next to the lake and it was really nice. 35°44'29.48"S 148°52'3.79"E It was actually a bit weird to camp in a saddle AND next to a lake but there you go.

That was a long walk and if I were planning a walk just to visit the lake, which should be full now, I wouldn't do it that way.

The second time I visited was from Yaouk 35°45'57.51"S 148°49'27.44"E via the upper upper Cotter Catchment :-) 35°45'30.84"S 148°51'24.51"E

If anyone gets to this lake again I'd love to see any images but note: There is no easy access to this lake. Map and compass skills are essencial and you're a long way from help. Not recommended for inexperienced walkers but highly recommended none the less

Ralph,

Thanks for posting, and joining. Welcome to the Forum. Your photos are great and are what sparked my interest in the tarn. It is not marked on the maps probably because it is dry more often than it holds water? Thank you for the co-ordinates. Hopefully I will get back in there before too long.
