Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone knows of overnight hikes (1-2 days) that are accessible via public transport.
We are in the Penrith area so dont really want to be on the train more than 60-90mins..
My first choice was Blue Mountains but it seems all camping area's are closed for various reasons right now and we are planning this to happen in the next fortnight.

Thanks :)

Hi Cassandra. Have a look at Wildwalks http://www.wildwalks.com/ It can tell you just about everything you need to know, including transport options for the start and finish of each walk. I have not heard about all camping areas being closed. This seems very unlikely.

Cheers

Lindsay

Wildwalks is a great reference. There are many walks that would work for you. From Mt Vic to Blackheath via the Grose, something out into the Wild Dogs via Narrowneck, Mt Solitary traverse, plus quite a few easier options in the lower mountains. More than enough to keep you busy for a little while!
And no issue with closures. There might be the odd closure at formal camp grounds, but those are usually designed for car campers. I don't know of any areas you'd come across on an overnight bushwalk in the Blue Mountains that have any restrictions at the moment.

The Coastal walk at the royal national park is a good one, easy access and very scenic.
