How long are you planning on walking? What sort of walking do you like (snow shoeing)?

sorry i forgot to mention I was thinking about going for about 4-5 days and yes snowshoeing would be good.

Depends on you skill set and fitness, but the classic Alpine winter walk is Falls Creek to Hotham via Bogong

I'd second Moondog, you'd probably want to be able to keep a nice pace with snowshoes for it but that would be the one. It's a car shuffle though, so the logistics might be a concern but there are threads here that detail the virtues of buses for connections. You'd also probably want to consider whether you incorporate Mt Feathertop into the route, which is probably recommended but adds a little extra up and down.

Or the Bogong Circuit, which has the advantage of being, well, a circuit. No transport issues involved.

Hi Brad

+1 for the 4-5 day Bogong circuit: Start at Mountain Creek, then Staircase Spur, Quartz Ridge/Grey Hills, Spion Kopje Spur, AAWT to Cleve Cole Hut, then back to the start via Eskdale Spur. (Here is the report from my trip in Aug/Sep last year)

I can also recommend a 4-day circuit I did recently at Mt Feathertop: Start at Harrietville, then Bungalow Spur, Diamantina Spur, Machinery Spur, then back to the start via Bon Accord Spur. (You could replace Bon Accord Spur with Champion Spur to get in some of the Razorback.)

Another of interest is 3-4 day The Bluff Southern Circuit. I bailed at the halfway point due to deep than expected snow (and less than imagined fitness!) (My trip report is here)

A good reference for these walks (and more) is the book "Bushwalks in the Australian Alps".

This is a slight digression but I've just had a look at your blog, Andrew. Great stuff!

You could also put together a very good 4 or 5 day circuit from Bogong Village, using the Spion Kopje track on one side and the Fainter track on the other. Heaps of possibilities once you're up on top, including the loop over Bogong, although that would make for a long 5 days - but it would cover the best of the Bogongs (I don't consider Feathertop et al to be in the Bogongs).
