GOW

Mon 09 Sep, 2013 6:34 pm

For 15yrs I had a motorbike and wanted to do the GOR but something always came up. Since I no longer have the bike I have decided to do the GOW in march. This will be a solo 5 day hike. Really looking forward to this, if anyone has any advice it would be appreciated.

I've done the GOW in sections over the past couple of years. From memory, the more scenic parts was from Johanna to 12 apostles, although I've enjoyed every section we hiked. Have a look at the very general map provided online to get an idea for which sections will follow along the coast and where it diverts inroad for big sections. I've only been as far as the 12 apostles but I hear that further west has some great sections, we just haven't got around to yet.

Make sure that you time any beach walks with the tides, or else you may find yourself in an uncomfortable position...also, there are a lot of snakes so make sure you wear gaiters. Apart from that, it is a fairly straightforward walk. Enjoy!
