Hi all TDB here, and this is my first post on the forum and wanted ask a question. I want to plan an overnight hike in Eildon NP. And want to know if anyone has had any experience in this area and what would be a good overnight hike?

Hi TBD, I have walked there a couple of times one time I went out late one afternoon meaning to walk to mountaineer creek but that proved a bit to far to walk in the time I had so I camped off track down devass track.
I started at wallaby bay. Apart from the big campsites as you go in to the park the only official camp is at mountaineer inlet which would be a good walk from wallaby bay.

I agree with surly17 it is a good walk into Mountaineer Creek. If you go over the Blowhard via
Merlot spur a coupe of steep spurs to get over and a very pleasant camping spot.
Make sure you have a look at Stones Outstation along the way.
It will cost you to camp at Mountaineer Creek these days ($13.00?) so check the Parks on line booking system.

Thanks surly 17 and neilmny for your feed back. I may take a look at that, it sounds good. If there any other suggestions I would love to hear them.

It's a walk I've been meaning to do for some time but haven't managed it yet. I figure it's about 10km from Wallaby Bay carpark to the camp via Blowhard Spur and about 14km around the lake edge (Wallaby Bay wlaking track). I did a day walk there a few years back, which was good. My notes are in my blog.

Yes Ian, from Merlot Lookout to Mountaineer Ck and return via School Point etc. around the lake was just over 21km
(without a side trip to Stones Outstation)

Oh....at the top of the Blowhard there is a seat made from sleepers, a good spot for a rest.
When I was there last time there was a 4 foot Brown Snake in residence, I almost stepped on the
bugger while enjoying the view. On arrival I'd had a close look around but obviously not close enough.
I don't know what or who was fastest to back pedal me or the snake. One thing I can say though they move very fast.

Yes, I stepped backwards so fast my front almost overtook my back and the snake slithered off flat out into some nearby rocks and bushes. Needless to say I was on high alert for the rest of that afternoon, I thought every stick I passed was a potential snake.
