Hi Everyone,
I'm planning to go to the Grampians for a weekend soon with some mates and we're thinking of mixing it up and driving to a campsite to set up a base and do several different short walks over two days, instead of hiking with all of our gear on a loop.
I'm having trouble finding a map with trails online but thankfully some are now in the mail - but I thought I'd put it out to the collective wisdom.
Can anyone recommend campgrounds that have access or a few different trails?
Cheers
- James

No.
Because in Victoria, like Tassie, what you walk on is a track.

James, welcome to the forum. There's two sorts of campsites. The ones you refer to seem to be the formal campsites, which require booking and payment. They have good camping sites, the possibility of lots of people, toilets, water and often picnic tables. The other is a clearing in the bush with no facilities, usually no other people, and no booking fee. I always camp at the latter. If you carry more water it's possible to stop anywhere.
Can you please give an idea what side of the Grampians you are hoping to visit? Also, what sort of grade walks are you looking for? Do you want to go off track? How do you feel about a short walk into a campsite? This short walk will get you away from the idiots that sometimes visit. However, I've only had one adverse experience in the Grampians in that regard, so it's pretty safe.
