Water Grampians Peak Trail

Thu 18 Mar, 2021 10:29 am

Hi all
Planning to do this walk end April. I would like to know the water availability at the 2 camps and other water sources along the way.
Also I'm a bit queezy on heights. Are there any such concerns? Any steep rock scrambling ?
Thanks all

I've walked up to the Pinnacle and done the Mt. Rosea circuit (in a torrential downpour) and there were no exposed parts or rock scrambling on the walk.
It is steepish in places, so you'll be puffing a bit.
There would be water near the Wonderland Carpark, Venus baths at the start. Maybe Bridal veil falls.
Lake Belfield has plenty of water and is near Borough huts.
I can't remember if Bugiga camp has a water tank.

Bugiga has a tank near the toilet. Whether there's anything in it is another matter...

Bugiga has a tank which should be fine. If you are worried there is good car access to the camp (700m walk) and you can leave water there yourself or organise a drop through Absolute Outdoors.

The water at Borough huts is piped from the river and should be fine.

I'm doing this in early April, but I'm not confident that there will be much water in the tank at Bugiga given it's school holidays and there could be a lot of use.

So depending on the weather, I think I'll haul 3 or 4 litres of water on the first day to get me through to Borough Huts later on the second day.

I suppose you could use Splitters Falls as a refill point (I was there in January 2020 and there was water flowing) but it's only about a third way into the day's walking.

Bridal Veil Falls were dry at the same time.

Keep am eye on the weather, e.g.

There's also a creek shown on Gaia and AllTrails just before Bugiga but I have not seen any mention of it anywhere - I will be keen to see what it's like when I go past.

Thanks to all those replies. Much appreciated. Hopefully there's rain in the preceding days.

Well there was plenty of rain this weekend gone while I did it - nothing like an arctic blast whilst ascending Mt Rosea :)

There was water in the tank at Bugiga (before the rain on Friday afternoon) but no real way of telling how much - it's built into the toilet block so you can't just knock on the side.

And at Borough Huts there are taps that are connected to the creek, which whilst not flowing strongly still seemed to have plenty of water.

The creek I mentioned above (just before Bugiga) was dry.
