Mt Cobbler

Postby MartyGwynne » Mon 14 May, 2012 12:49 pm

Hey I bagged Mt Cobbler last week.
It is an easy walk up from the hut, though you may need a car with 4wd to get there though.
It took about an hr and a half for us to walk up and an hr to get back down again.
It was a fantastically clear day you could see for miles and miles.

2WD cars can park at the Lakes turnoff, it's only a few hundred metres in from there.. I did that quite a few times in my pre-4wd days. Although I did get the 2wd Hilux in and out once. That was probably the start of the problems with the exhaust . . .

I took our old BMW 535 up there- thank goodness for those steel skid plates underneath. Gee did we get some grumpy looks from the Toorak Taxi set, but we made it up and back no worries.

Not to be repeated in a Hyundai though.

We made it to the campground in the Kingswood :-)

The road was a bit rough and we made it to the ford about 200m before the campground without problem. We could have stopped there but thought nah!, we can do this. We then got lost on the walk.

Well there you go I did say you may need a 4wd but if you are willing to sacrifice your car a little and some careful driving you can make it.
My old 307 wagon was once called a Kluegar..... probably from where I had managed to get it to
Well done guys for saying you can get there 2wd style
I was not driving when we went in at night (just drinking!) so was not paying much attention to the road conditions as the toorak taxi I was in smoothed out all of the bumps.

I wouldn't take a 2WD up there. My wife never let me repeated the trip.
