Helicopter spur

Fri 11 Mar, 2016 5:37 pm

Hi guys,

With the forecast now better for the weekend we want to head towards the Bluff. Knowing Jamieson Spur is supposed to be horrible and tomorrow isnt going to be too flash, we want to walk Eight Mile to Upper Howqua, up Helicopter Spur and back via the Bluff. Does anyone know what Helicopter spur is like atm?
Are the waterpoints on the maps fairly reliable? I assume with recent rains the might be running again, even if they weren't last week...
Thanks!

I'm not sure of any water sources on Helicopter Spur. The route basically follows the line of the spur. There are water sources at the top but I'm unsure if their current status.

Does anyone know if the "walking track" from Bluff Hut to Ritchy's Hut is "visible"? or would that be a gps shrub bash?

I've only done it coming the other way. Though not a maintained 'track", It's quite open and follows a prominent spur. Easy walking with little to no scrub bash.

Came down that spur from Bluff Hut on Friday. It's called the '14 Mile Spur Trail' - down to Ritchies Hut.
The latest RoofTop map notes the trail as 'Badly Overgrown' and the SVMap lists it as 'Undefined Trail' - the trail is actually fine and although there
are some small trees down across the trail in several places it's definitely not overgrown and generally easily followed - the trail just suffers from lack of use.
A couple of times I had to stop and search for 10-20seconds to relocate the trail/pad but no dramas. The trail pops out behind the toilet at Richies Hut.
