Track conditions and water availability for Whitelaw Hut

Postby w1nta » Sun 04 May, 2025 5:41 pm

Hi team, I'm thinking of doing an overnighter on Mt Baw Baw walking from the car park to Whitelaw Hut ruins. Has anyone done it recently? How is the track and is there a water source around Whitelaw Hut? Thanks.

The AAWT from Mt.Whitelaw hut ruins to St. Phillack saddle and the BB village link tracks were cleared in the last 24 months by BTAC/ PV/ Friends of BB.
Water should be in the stream near the Whitelaw hut ruins. Take a pump up water filter because it might be flowing too slowly and be too shallow to fill up containers just relying
on the flow rate.
The AAWT from Mt. Whitelaw Hut ruins to The junction with the Upper Yarra walking trail has also been given a haircut in the past
24 months.
This whole BB AAWT section of track is subject to ongoing track clearing working bees albeit periodically.
The latest AAWT guide book gives you all the information in detail that you will require to find water
and find the way .
