Only before winter so might not be of much help. DEECA had done some track work and it was in good condition. I don't see any of the recent snow or rain events doing too much damage and doubt there is any snow left on the road. If the question relates to what type of vehicle would be suitable I could not say for sure a 2wd would be OK but any AWD would be fine based on previous years. I am not saying 2wd would not make it either but there are still the odd slushy bits in winter and some things are also driver dependent. You could always contact Parks at Mt. Beauty for info.

Is the Hollow way logging road open? That provides access to the winter gate of the Granite Flat spur track.

Trappers gap is open all year round unless there are works being done. You might need a chainsaw. Vic roads traffic site has a list of all roads closed including the seasonal closures in state forest and national park. https://traffic.transport.vic.gov.au/

Drove Camp Creek rd to Eskdale yesterday , road is in good condition a few boggy soft spots but managed in my 2wd.... I wouldn't dare if its been raining wet conditions I reckon would be slip sliding sideways like the Jamaican bobsled team.

It has been quite dry this winter and I suspected the road would be OK but as it is not my usual way up Bogong I could not be sure. Good information for others. Might also be handy for 2wd to carry a set of wheel chains for the 'just in case'. Getting in is one thing and getting out another. I have known people to get stuck at the gap with some unforeseen weather. A bugger to fit for a short distance but better that than a slide off the edge or getting stuck.

Didn't think of the chains good idea Xplora, I actually lost control on a slight downhill section where the road has been resurfaced with gravel but its very squishy and slippy , first instinct is to touch the brakes but I downshifted to 2nd gear and let it slide and correct itself, I did shat my pants though , hence my comment about in the wet I wouldn't dare.

Well done. Brakes are you enemy in those situations. The general rule is to turn in the direction of the slide which is also a bit counterintuitive. Doesn't matter if it is front or rear letting go. May only need a slight correction. The other general rule is to take the power off. A new surface can get a bit loose on top especially when there is a freeze and thaw.
