Can I safely park at Mt Buller for multiday walks?
Planning a 1 week circuit from Buller, Cobbler, Spec, Bluff, Buller but wondering where I should park. Any advice?
Cheers
:)

I have never been to Buller, no idea what is there in terms of parking, services, etc. Only that it might still have snow and road ice. I'd be happier if I could get a lift up and back without driving beyond Merrijig. It would be much kinder to my kombi.

Road to Mt Buller is paved and good all the way but has many twists and sharp corners
Sounds like your Kombi needs a good overhaul and engine rebuild. I used to do it weekly in my old Dyna, Kombi should have no trouble so long as the clutch and brakes are up to standard.

You're right Moondog55. When i have a spare 2K i will. Previous owner rebuilt the engine but tried zouping it up a bit but it hasn't worked so it needs (?)unbuilding. Since I bought Reggie a bolt went through her engine from one of the air filters falling off out near Dubbo, fan and alternator fell off out near Crescent Head after repairs, blew a gasket near Brisbane and, after last week's big service preparing her for the mountains, the mechanic has given me a list of expensive stuff that needs attention including taking it back to it's original engine which will solve most of the problems. When I finish walking across Australia in a couple of years it will happen. In the meantime I just need to nurse her and plan to stop regularly in interesting places. She's 41 so she's doing okay considering.

Re Buller:
I'm thinking it might be more practical to park at and walk from Telephone Box Junction instead of Buller. It is all new ground for me except the AAWT bit. Reggie's okay on steep winding dirt if i just stick her in 2nd and hope no logging trucks cut their corners.

You'll find the road to TBJ is Ok and not very steep, she should make it  :)

Thanks neilmny :)
I didn't think about the Mt Selwyn road until reading one of andrewbish's blogs and saw 2WD vehicles parked at TBJ. Had a closer look on the maps and decided it makes more sense than Buller.
