Vic Gov putting private lodges in the Grampians

Postby cherryw » Sat 09 Aug, 2014 10:48 pm

Is this the start of this government trying to sell everything off that is owned by all of us. How long would it be before they start charging to walk these trails?

Anything to make money for themselves. Wait for the toll gates and the weigh bridge

This is stupid, it's not like there isn't enough accommodation at Halls Gap, Dunkeld, or Horsham... 100 years ago, the US fought against private lodges and hotels in NPs, the same way they fought against dams and any commercial/industrial plan (mining, logging, resorts). Why does Australia keep trying to come back to the old (and WRONG) ways ?

It's not just a question of bushwalkers voting about one issue. Most people will vote according to matters that more directly impact them. To this end, I strongly suggest that conservation is irrelevant for most people, simply does not register. So, while I have strong conservation views, I always reason from an economics aspect. East West link losing money, invest a dollar and get back 80 cents. Stop logging and better water quality, quantity and timing, lower costs. Alpine grazing and fossicking have similar impacts.

The message needs to be made known in emails, letters to MPS, and the papers. Give examples how the proposal will adversely impact the region. Get the locals on side: they will lose as well, especially accommodation places. I have lyrics running in my head:
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot,
With a pink hotel, a boutique,
And a swinging hot spot.

Don't it always seem to go,
That you don't know what you've got till it's gone,
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

Despite the abysmal financial management in Canberra, Liberals see themselves as the party of business. Show that their economic credentials are dismal and it will hurt them.
