3 dads received hall passes and we made a quick recce trip to Sealers Cove at Wilsons Prom this past weekend. We expected to be blasted with rain but got super lucky. We only got rained on at night, after we were in the tents.

We all have kids around the same age and are now planning a trip in the near future with the kids. I do have one question - how bad are the mozzies there in the summer? That beach looks like it'll be a blast for the kids, but may not be too fun if they're then eaten alive back at the camp site.

Been there a few times at differnt times of the year and can't remember mozzies being much of a problem. March flies on the other hand ... Grrr.

Obviously this 30year old isnt very modern any more as ive never heard the term referred as such.

Hall pass from the better half = they let you do something... exactly as per MB's link above.

ps, never been overly bothered by insects at the prom, birds on the other hand... they are fearless!

Earwig - thanks for the heads up. Currently scheduling a trip in October. Knowing the kids, they'll probably take freezing in the water over being bitten alive. In any case, a night in the open would be better than none. Looking forward.

went to sealers cove a couple of years back. had a beautiful swim when i got there. didn't have a prob with mozzies, on the other hand tho', watch the tide times for sealers ck. i crossed when it was waist high, unstable sand , quite wide, just a tad scary for a novice and i imagine youngsters. parks will give you tide times when you check in. i'm going in early nov., doingthe telegraph tk to south pt and beyond. enjoy, splittie. ps. anybody walked in the nth section of the prom ?

Had to get a hall pass to go to the toilet when I was in school.

Also I think the flys and mozzies do tag team. Flys during the day and then they swap with the mozzies just to p you off.
seriously what was noah thinking when he put and male and female fly and mozzie on his boat. Where was the bug spray??.

Back to OP's question. We stayed at Sealers Cove after Christmas last year. I didn't notice the mosquitoes much during the day but they came out in droves at dusk and were bad in the morning. I lay there at night watching them hovering on the outside of our mosquito netting inner trying to reassure myself that they were all really on the outside. Didn't get many bites though, so it was all ok in the end.

Useful update on the walkable swamp condition on the nth circuit.

I'd be more worried about the huge, smart, fearless possums at Sealers than about the mozzies.

I'm not sure what they are like at Sealers Cove but when we stayed at Refuge Cove at the start of this year they were relentless come nightfall. I can remember almost doing a dance to keep them off me whilst I purified my water. And of course, I didn't pack any insect repellent either did I? That's one mistake I'll never make again!
