Camping at or near Lake Mountain

I'm planning a short trip up the Lake Mountain, I'd like to camp overnight near my car and then do some day walks. Is there anywhere or or near the mountain I can camp? Preferably not a caravan camping ground.
Thanks

Keppel Creek camping area http://www.exploreaustralia.net.au/Vict ... mping-area - apparently can be accessed by car.
Don't know what it's like but it's free and then there's keppels Hut http://www.exploreaustralia.net.au/Vict ... mping-area you need a 4WD.

Hi
We got up to Keppel's hut by walking from the Lady Talbot Drive / Upper Taggerty track intersection where we left the car . We walked up to The Boundary hut ruins on the Lake mtn. plateau and back in a day. There is good camping up at Lake Mtn. with water from streams nearby as well as camping at Keppel's hut. Keppel's Hut has a pit loo and a stream nearby that was flowing in Jan. 2016.
The drive past Phantom Falls on the Lady Talbot Drive was barely feasible in my 2 WD. I would not go up there again in a 2 WD.

I've done both Keppel's hut and Keppel's creek. Both have flowing water. You can stay in the hut or pitch a tent outside if the hut is full. At Keppel's creek you can pitch a tent in the front camping area or, if it's vacant, drive down the 2WD track to the back area by the river and pitch a tent there. It's a great spot.

If you're looking for day walks, I'd suggest camping at Keppel's Hut.
