Thanks Keithy
The Springs near MUMC looks correct as there is an obvious depression
The Springs near Federation hut looks harder to find and is a fair way from hut site there is a creek depression close by
how reliable are these springs?

There was a fairly obvious track leading to the spring from the Bungalow Spur Track near the Old Fed Hut site when I was last there albeit a while back.

There used to be a small sign on the track near the old Fed hut site pointing to the spring. It is a short 150 - 200 m side track that ends at the spring. As I recall, the old hut was built for it's proximity to the spring.
The spring on the way to the Melb Uni hut is reportedly more reliable.

Although correctly it is the Old Feathertop Hut, there has only ever been one Federation hut. it's been a decades since I went down the the small spring near Feathertop hut and the track was almost not there then

I have never seen the MUMC hut track spring run dry in some eleven years plus of hiking and camping in the area. I have stocked up on water there and then camped at the top of the Diamantina spur having ascended the Diamantina spur. That was solid.
I have also hiked up the Bungalow spur and collected water from the spring just off the Bungalow spur track near the old Hut ruins. I was up there in December 2019 and that water source was flowing well. I was wise to fill up with 7 litres at that spot because the Fed. hut tank was dry. I went onto camp at the top of the Diamantina spur before descending back to my car via Champion spur the next day.
That too was very solid and my legs let me know it too.
Access tracks to both water sources are obvious, clear and sign posted.

7 litres was for the rest of day one and all of day two of the Champion Spur loop. There is no water at the High Knob/ Diamantina spur camp site. There is no water on Champion Spur until you hit the Ovens river at the very bottom. That is exactly when I ran out of water. Going Up Champion spur would be pure masochism and you would run out of water well before reaching a refill point.
