Water in crosscut saw region

Postby Maxp20 » Thu 19 Dec, 2024 6:18 pm

Hi, wondering if anyone knows how much water is in the high country springs, as it’s been a dry winter and spring in the city. I’m thinking in the mac springs, camp creek at Mount Spec, hellfire creek etc area. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

In My experience the water in Hellfire creek usually dries up just after Xmas.
Camp creek at Mt. Spec. is reliable all year round.
So too is the water source at the Stanely Name spur camping area( 1km or so down off the Cross cut saw. It is a steep descent )..
Mac. Springs should still be flowing.I will be doing a BTAC track clearing working bee up there in 4 weeks.
The spring on Mt. Howitt usually dries up around the same time as Hellfire creek. There is a sign on Mt. Howitt
pointing the way to the spring.
Sometimes the water source at a soak near the source of King Billy Creek flows until Xmas.
Timbertop school students / Teacher have marked part of the route on trees with markers etc. down to the camping area not
far from that seasonal soak.
