Looking at heading up after work in melb CBD on a Thursday. and home Saturday.
I've just seen that I'm meant to have chains (In a well set up 4wd that has done plenty of time in the snow. I know thats not an excuse. But it means I'm carrying them mostly for tokenism)
To save me some time on the phone, and given my late departure, does anyone know who would hire 32" 4wd chains after hours some where enroute?

You won't need chains on Thursday and the declared season starts Saturday. Not many after hours options available at a glance especially before the season is declared. Some petrol stations might have chains for hire and the last is at Moe. Since you are heading out on Saturday I doubt you will be stopped.
I understand how you feel chains are something you will never need with your vehicle but I have fitted chains to two well setup 4wd's but conditions were terrible. I have my own and the expense has more than paid for them over the years. Fortunately the same chains have fitted three vehicles.

Apologies. a Thursday night after season is declared. Not specifically this thursday.
Chains are cheaper than a fine, so I might have to splurge.

The Baw Baw area does not have much snow at present.
The snow that landed on Mt. Buffalo and other places missed the Baw Baws.
Owning your own chains makes a lot of sense in nanny State Vic. esp. if
you drive on a regular/ semi regular basis in mountain
areas where carrying chains
is not optional.

That's a huge and expensive chain. Have you looked at buying and if so what size do you need?
I ask because I have a set of chains to fit 9.5R * 16s that may just fit and I no longer have that truck. Were on my old Dyna running Yokohama VJ Supersteel radials
