Pyrenees Pack-carry Walk

I am planning to do Pyrenees Walking Trail, also known as the Pyrenees Endurance Walk (18-24km, one way) with an overnight at Cameron Track Campground which is located between the start and the finish (Mt Avoca Waterfalls picnic ground and Glenlofty).

I will be travelling in a 2wd and there will be no other car for shuffle; therefore, i would like to know about public transport available. Where to start or finish will depend on transport access?

No transport. Both start and finish are fairly remote. 2wd will be fine at the start and finish but most tracks through the park require a decent 4wd and it's a long way around. I can only suggest a return journey.
I've been planning to do this for awhile but will probably try as a day trip

Such a pity! Another option i can think of is a car key swap for those of the same interest and a police station nearby could be used as a friendly meeting place. I believe that most of police stations are open 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week and staff on roster would be happy to help with a minor paper work for the purpose of personal safety.

Both the avoca and elmhurst police stations arnt 24 hr unfortunately. Have you thought of doing a loop? There are some other interesting tracks you could use on the way back although a lot are 4wd tracks

Just scanned maps for the whole walk and will do it when weather and time permitting. The only time needed for the two walkers at a police station is before the drive to the start/finish and after their completion of the walk. Of course, Cameron Track Campsite will be the meeting place for the car key swap. Unsure what i will be doing at this stage.

Give up the pack-carry overnight walk and plan two day walks. In relation to the drive to Cameron Track Campground i wonder if No2 Creek Track and Main Break are fine in 2wd.

I've definantly driven to Cameron camp from the north in a 2wd car before. Don't think it's possible from the south. I walked in from the south and remember most tracks being for serious 4wd only

Yes, but they reckon the Mt Margaret route into Tali is a three day return trip. Still, it might be interesting.

There is some pretty steep terrain there but they are usually pretty generous on the times. I'd take a guess i could do it in half the recommended time easily.

Took a quick drive to Cameron's camp today. Roads are fine for 2wd although a few rough Rocky sections they were no problem for a late model falcon.

It is lucky for you to live nearby. At present, I am thinking of two day loop walks with the start from Waterfalls Picnic Area for day one and Cameron Track Campsite for day two. Of course, Pyrenees Walking Trail is the major part on the walks and it seems that there is a bit off track down to a creek on day one. A big thank you for having a drive to check out the road condition.

After a bit of research it seems it's quiet comfortable to do as a day walk. Parking at the southern end and walking to waterfalls camp, staying the night then returning to the car next day might be an option.

With a few spare hours today I decided to go out there again. Starting from the finish i planned to walk to Cameron's camp and return. Unfortunately today they were doing track work and i was running out of time so i turned around about 1km from Cameron's camp.
The section from the finish to Smith track is covered in leaf litter and bark making it barely visible so you need to keep an eye on the distant orange marking if you want to follow the track.
There are some very steep sections and even though i was making good time i think it would still be a solid 6hrs one way for the complete walk.

Still plan two day loops. Cameron's camp can also be the start for day one.

I did this walk a few years ago with my dog. It was a bit disappointing as sections are on made tracks, but some sections were nice. We camped at Camerons Campground and did the walk in 2 sections. First day was from Cameron's Camp east to Glenlofty and then back again. The next day we drove to Waterfall picnic area and attempted to walk to Camerons. The track was very badly marked beyond the halfway mark and we lost it, tried backtracking and still had no luck finding it. Not entirely sure where this was, but possibly beyond Emery Track, heading east. Overall, the terrain isn't too difficult, but it does take a long time to traverse.
