Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk question

Wed 18 Jul, 2012 3:06 pm

Hi Everyone

Has anyone walked the Gold Coast Hinterland Great walk recently?

I have a question about the Woonoongoora walkers' camp. The DERM website states that this walkers camp has no drinking water? Does anyone know if it has any water at all?

Weve done a few of the QLD great walks and there has been a water tank at each camp site. We have just boiled the water before use.

If there is no water tank are there any creeks nearby that we can use for water? (we would of course boil it or use tabs)

Cheers

Walked this walk June 2012. Woonoongoora walkers camp has a rainwater tank filled by a downpipe off the toilet roof. Was over flowing when we were there in mid June, and my guess is it still would be. I drank plenty without boiling or illness, but do so at your own risk. (I have never been sick drinking water in NP's in SEQ or on my 3 visits to Thailand for that matter, maybe I just have tough innards!)

If the tank happened to be dry, and thats unlikley unless the tap was leaking, there is reliable water supply at Apple tree park, 900 steps up the hill. This would be a solution if need be.

Thanks so much for your reply. Given all the rain there im sure there will be rainwater.

I agree with you re the drinking water but even though its a small risk the thought of days in the wilderness with gastro is very unappealing. :)

Cheers
