If this walk gets "developed" then we won't be going there. We walk for peace, solitude and the natural environment, not fancy huts, wine and 3 course meals in remote locations. There are already a plethora of such fancy offerings for a soft walk. No more required.

This is disgusting. Nothing appears to be sacred in n the face of $. Tasmanians will be rallying against a very similar proposal that will have incursions into the Walls of Jerusalem National Park today in Launceston. We need a national campaign that protects the integrity of all national parks rather than fighting the fires one by one

Forces need to gather to prevent the swing going too far.
I made a very thorough visit to Hinchinbrook over 15 years ago. I would one day be expecting to go back. My partner needs to see it.
It would, no doubt drop hugely on the list of priorities if it were to be different to my last visit.
In the face of those wanting jobs and profits, my wants and needs wouldn't even register. To them i don't represent any investment to the area.
Lets hope common sense prevails and this weakening of National Park security is thwarted.
An ever increasing world population does nothing for my faith in a positive outcome.

So many failed resorts in NQ that it would surely make more sense to renovate/renew those before destroying more protected forest. For eg: The Coconut Beach Resort at Cape Tribulation, built on leasehold land inside the National Park, now is becoming our very own Mayan ruin in the rainforest.

I'm wondering if it's some kind of ambit claim though?? Maybe to distract us while they grab another spot. The short walking season on Hinchinbrook, remoteness and rough unformed tracks would all seem to work against taking commercial walkers through. If the resort on the top of the island wasn't viable I wonder how building lodges on the track will work? If it's all as reported though then it's a shocking development and we need to fight as hard as we can to stop it.

I've been there three times over the years and am thinking that I'm due to revisit as I haven't been up since Yasi. I'm currently working on a post for my blog about a trip up Mt Bowen that I did years ago. It looks like I'd better get back soon...
