The current Queensland and NSW fire season has been devastating, taking lives and destroying homes. Our fire services are under resourced and overworked, and we know global warming is only making things worse.

We want to impose a ‘Protecting Queenslanders Levy’ on all coal and gas corporations to fund our plan to:

Hire 1,400 new full time paid firefighters
Invest an extra $75 million over three years in the Rural Fire Service
Create a permanent aerial firefighting wing with $200 million for firefighting aircraft
Create 200 new Indigenous Ranger positions to work with the QFES and RFSQ to better support and inform hazard reduction burns and landscape management by investing $24 million over three years.

Global warming is making our fire seasons longer and more dangerous. The QFES has already said they are under-resourced with concerns about overwork and burnout.

Your petitioners request that the Queensland Government: levy coal and gas corporations to fund an immediate increase in funding for the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service and the Rural Fire Service.

Where are these 200 aboriginal specialists going to come from? I doubt you'll find that many willing to travel and leave their communities.
I doubt there would be 200 Victor Steffensen's ready to go around.

If they are proposing to train 200 aboriginals in their own fire techniques, then why not spread the good word to everyone and not just the aboriginals?
While I have no concern that their techniques would be effective back in the day, would they stand up to modern times; being able to protect livestock, crops and homes as well that are found in all corners of the bush?

Are current modern techniques that our fireys use THAT ineffective or are the ever increasing pressures of funding and climate change suppressing their ability to actually be effective?

In case you hadn't noticed volunteer firefighters want to remain volunteers.

Not sure how bad the fires in Western Australia have been, but they've been burning over there too.
Tassie so far seems to have had just one major patch burning, near the Fingal Valley and that's pretty well sorted now. So we've been lucky.

Quite right NNW South Aus and WA have had it really bad too and it was remiss of me to not include them.
I was somewhat cheezed off that like the SydneyBrisbanecentric media the OP had forgotten about the rest of the country.
It is good to see that Tas hasn't been hammered as badly as in previous year.
