A bus travels on tues thurs and sat in both directions.cairns to Cooktown via the Bloomfield road. This adds about 4 km at either end compared to taking your own car but that 4 km is a pretty walk thru the rainforest on a narrow gravel road so is quite pleasant. I recommend four days. This includes a side trip to home rule falls form where it is possible to walk further upstream to intake falls and potentially I suppose even further on to the main track. There are three tracks into cedar bay. 1 via home rule. 2 via auravale 3 via gap track .. not sure how well marked the gap track is these days . It is visble from the beach .via tagging tape, .. just I have been to cedar bay three times now . Once with my young children but be warned it is a tough walk and can require lawyer vine disentanglements and watch out for giant stinging nettles in June 2021 I saw a very large crocodile on the beach just north of the northern end of cedar bay. It was hiding amongst and looked like a black rock. Also saw a dead beluga whale being eaten by a dingo.
