Hi all, was wondering which of the camping areas which can be gotten to by cars have a great view, ie not surrounded by trees on all sides. Binna Burra is one example, how many others do people know of? The camping grounds books don't have views rated unfortunately

Would like to make it a base camp for walks but with the family camped near the car because of all the crap stuff they seem to bring but I'd like a view of something other than trees......

Am happy to drive 2 - 300kms from Brisbane

What about Girraween? There's a few trees there but you've got the pyramids really close by as well. There's also Sundown nearby, with access to the river, and another drive-in campsite at Bald Rock

The private campground at Mt barney lodge has great views of the mountain
Good family camping with good facilities etc

Bunya Mountains national park. There's one campsite there that has good views called Burtons Well. Fire's are allowed, they even supply the firewood, with great walking tracks leaving and entering into the camp site.

I should have thought of that ... we're going there at the start of next month. Hoping to take the kids for a bit of a scramble somewhere.

That sound like a great spot. I may check that one out myself.

Thanks for the ideas, We went to Bunya last year but stayed at the camping grounds near the restaurant as I was doin it easy catering wise. Will try the other one and Girraween is on the list too, thanks for the ideas everyone.

You are allowed to camp at Mt Walsh, Camping permits available from the Maryborough Parks & Wildlife Service Office. It's remote camping. You are not suppose to camp in the car park area. Park the car there and walk away from the car park.

Yes, it involves Rock Scrambling in one or two sections near the top of Mt Walsh. At times, your on your hands and knees, Do not attempt the climb if there is any likely hood of rain. The climb is virtually imposible when wet, very slippery. A rope is very handy in some sections, but not required, there's one section with very little to grab onto, it's a slippery flat rock at a fairly steep angle of apx 6 to 10 metres long. Rope is handy for that section, makes it a lot easier to get up on that steep slippery section. There's another spot that involves a straight up climb, but there's plenty of rocks to grab onto, It's only about 2 metres high. the rest is relatively easy but steep.
