For those of you thinking of heading to Lamington National Park in the near future - wonder just how extensive the damage is?

Following recent weather events, the majority of full-day walks as listed in Lamington National Park webpage and Park Guide remain closed until further notice, due to storm damage. However, all half-day walks have been re-opened, including some full-day walks at Binna Burra section, as listed below. Visitors are urged to monitor Park Alerts on the department's website as updates about park conditions become available.

Half-day walks which have been re-opened are:

Green Mountains

Rainforest Return;
Morans Falls Track; and
Python Rock Track.

Binna Burra

Rainforest Circuit;
Bellbird Lookout Track;
Caves Circuit;
Tullawallal Circuit; and
Gwongoorool Track.

Full-day walks which have been re-opened at Binna Burra are:

Daves Creek including Upper Ballunjui Falls Track; and
Part of Lower Bellbird Circuit including Lower Ballunjui Falls Track (access to Koolanbilba Lookout remains closed) – track commences approx 500m north of Visitor Information Centre on eastern side of Binna Burra Road (must return same way).

I was at Binna Burra on Monday and walked to Upper Ballunjui Falls. Plenty of water around and the falls looked great. I almost stood on a nice tiger snake curled up in the middle of the path but continued once I gently moved it out of the way. Beautiful close encounter.

Things must be bad when even the snakes need to use the tracks.

still closed!! i was hoping to do the coomera falls circuit tomorrow. shame.

can anyone recommend a good 15-20km walk that's under 2hrs from brisbane?? prefer something on-track... the missus gets worried when i have to navigate!

I think we'll just have to be patient around here. It took about a month or so to clean up on Tamborine Mtn and thats with road access.

If you stay away from rainforest, the open sclerophyll that I've seen is pretty good. What about something like Benarkin ?

i am trying to find a walk to do over easter and it seems that the gold coast great walk might be open..... even though a lot of the individual tracks that the great walk traverses are closed. i tried calling the number on NPRSR website but i could only speak to a govt drone who read the info on the website back to me like i was stupid. she didn't have a number for the rangers office and the number i found by googling just goes through to voicemail. i have left a message but now i seem to be at a dead end.

does anyone know if the gold coast great walk is/will be open for easter?

or can anyone recomend a good 2-3 night walk in SEQ that is open? conondale, cooloola and fraser are all probably going to be closed and i've already done the sunshine coast one. i haven't done much off track walking before so i'd prefer something that follows formed trails. management roads and the like are ok - but i don't want to end up lost (or even have doubt about being lost!) because the mrs will become rather unpleasant.

Moreton Island, the northern section I believe is open. Im planning on this hike after easter.

No, but I had a friend that hiked At Moreton Island and loved it. Just hike along the coast line. Arrive at the landing point near the resort, Stay the night there at the camp ground near by and head north along the western beach to one of the campsites along the coast, following day hike to the very top and explore the light house, staying at the camp ground near by. and choose what every way you want to go from there on. It's probably the best your going to find at the moment.

Flights are so cheap where you are to Sydney, You could easily jump on a flight and hike the Coastal Track at the royal national park, or the 6 foot track in the blue mountains.

I'm so tempted to book one of those 50.00 flights to Sydney you can pick up from the Gold Coast or Brisbane, next time I'm visiting my sister and sneak of for a few days and hike the 6 foot track at the blue mountains.

Above mentioned tracks still closed as of Monday 25 March.

I'm doing a couple of legs of the Sunshine Coast Walk on Tuesday, I noticed online that most of the walks were open up this way.

Some are. Half of the Conondale Ranges walk is still closed. According to their website Friday.
