Just wondering if anyone knows of any decent scrambles within an hour of Brisbane? Tibrogargan is my current spot.

Cheers!

Do you climb? Or just interested in non-roped rocky steep stuff? There is some scrambling and bouldering at White Rock (Redbank Plains). Bouldering at Toohey Forest. Have you done the caves route on Tibro (at the fairly extreme end of scrambling)? Flinders Peak has a bit of scrambling.

Within an hour of Brisbane is a pretty hard ask. Main Range has some bits all over the place. Mt. Castle, Spicers Peak has a bit. Tiny bits on the gorge routes on Mt. Greville. I can't think of anything that has as much solid rock as Tibro within that range though.

Further afield Barney obviously has a lot. Girraween is a scramblers playground. Sunshine Coast Hinterland mountains like Mt. Coolum.

Maybe you should just get into rock climbing. :) Tibro, Beerwah, Ngun Ngun, Mt. Coolum, Kangaroo Point, Frog. There are a lot of options nearby to keep you busy for years.

Thanks cams,

Just unroped stuff at the moment, though there's a good chance I'll get into climbing at some point. Tibro caves route is beyond my abilities at the moment I think.

I'll have to have another look around Mt. Coolum - I think I saw a bit just to the side of the track last time I was there.

I've already got another Barney trip planned, and I'll definitely have to check out Girraween one day. Pity the 2+ hour drive each way doesn't often fit into my schedule.

Cheers :)

If you are going to Mt Barney soon and are keen to take me along, please let me know because I want to climb Logan's Ridge but never been to the mountain before and have no idea of what the area is like. I have rock climbing and mountaineering experience from when I used to live in Europe.

Thanks!

Hi,

Won't be going up Logan's sorry - sticking to the easier ridges until I get a bit more experienced. I suspect you will find it easy enough with your mountaineering experience.

Not sure if you have seen these, but here are some links containing info about the different routes up Barney:

Thanks for the links.

About the ridge itself, it is not the scrambling and the steepness what worries me but finding the route up and having enough time to complete the whole thing without having to finish in the dark.

From the bits and pieces I've read Logan's doesn't sound too navigationally challenging, but I've no idea. Perhaps you should try south-east first to get a feel for the mountain - the track is pretty obvious for the most part.

Also here's opencyclemap. Has the major routes marked on it, though the topo isn't as detailed as the paper map available from QLD government. http://www.opencyclemap.org/?zoom=15&la ... ayers=B000
