Laidley Creek, Main Range

I'm looking at doing my first solo remote camping trip this weekend.
I've been told Laidley Creek is a great spot to start but i was wondering if anyone has been out that way recently and also any tips on the trek out to the remote camp site, as I have never been main range before.
