I plan to be in Tasmania for 3 weeks of walking starting on 7 March and am looking for people to join up for part or all of that time. The idea is to mainly do the shorter walks that you don't tend to get the chance to do when you head over for the usual 7-10 day walks. There will be day walks including Ben Lomond, Hartz Mountains and Mt Murchison while others will be overnight or 3 days including Lake Rhona, Freycenet Peninsular and Frenchmans Cap. From Lake St Clair will be the Mt Rufus-Mt Fugel-Shadow Lake circuit and The Labyrinth &The Acropolis. And if there's time then from Western Creek for 3 days to Ironstone Hut and a circuit walk on the Plateau. I'll have a car (for the first time after 13 bushwalking trips to the island) and the idea is to do the walks in a sequence that minimizes the driving although the order of visits may need to be altered to account for the weather -e.g. Mt Murchison in particular needs a clear day. The Central Plateau and Frenchmans Cap walks are revisits for me, the first to a favorite part of the island for walking and to Frenchmans to repeat a walk I did in 1970 but now with board-walks replacing the former multi channels of deep quagmire.
March is a great time to be walking in Tassie as the weather tends to be mild and settled and the crowds have gone. As a bushwalking companion you'll find me easy to get along with and if interested, I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks and cheers, Mike.
