This trip has finally prompted me to cough up some money and be prepared to spend up to AUD$2K on getting an ultra light 3 seasons tent and a lighter
non canvas pack.

Nice one PCV.
Your report was a picture of stoicism and stiff upper lip.
Not enough photos, however.
You chose character building by going in May
Brings back memories.
We did it in Nov. and got Heat, days of Rain, snow shows, and all that, so you guys would probably have had that on steroids.
You got lucky with the huts.
When we went, WVH was demolished and the route was to turn ;eft at the green spaceship, head down a semi-build track to Scott Kilvert Hut near Lake Rodway, which was full, so tent and a massive thunderstorm as the heat gave way to rain.
Then back up the track in drizzle and slipping, on to WIndamere with no break in drizzle.
Kia Ora was a cold dank hut when we did it, so maybe rebuilt/refurbished. We had snow and sub zero temps overnight from New Pelion to Du Cane.
You're right, Bert Nicholls was a aircraft hanger, but the heater was working and we got out sleep mats setup near it.

Thanks for reading my Trip Report. I don't think I need to do that again.

The weather was C O L D , W E T, W I N D Y and Challenging!!!
The snow and ice were even colder.
Pelion Hut was nothing special but Bert Nichols Hut was just a debacle of poor design and cryogenics by default.
The " drying" room at that hut was a cross between optimism and futility.
I might go to walk and camp out at Freycinet N.P. in March next year. I might take my car on the Ferry with a friend.
I have never been to Wineglass bay before.

May has been extraordinarily mild this year. But in Tasmania's highlands, that can still include challenging weather.
