Nadgee Howe trip vid

A short vid from my winter walk in Nadgee a little while back

We took the packrafts to explore the creeks and to cross at Mallacoota, my gopro let me down so sadly no paddling footage. Outgoing flood water, big tides and very strong winds made crossing at Mallacoota quite dangerous.

Hi all,

My friends and I will be doing the Nadgee Wilderness walk over the Christmas/NY break. Was wondering if any of you season pros could provide us with any advise given the time of year:

- Special spots along the hike
- How much water we should be carrying with us
- Snakes and Ticks - the reality (what should we take in terms of repellent etc) (not snake repellent - not that amateur)
- Must haves/have nots

We are doing the walk over 5 days and as yet I have not found a decent map so that's what i'll be looking for first.

Howdy, Diceman.

I took a group from Mallacoota to Wonboyn a few weeks back. What a beautiful area and here was me thinking that the Alps had the best back country walking in Victoria. (And the Alps ARE the best, but Nadgee is great in it's own right.)

We stayed at the Mallacoota Foreshore Holiday Park for the first night. Very convenient. Nice pub nearby for a communal meal.
We did a car shuffle, leaving a couple of vehicles at the end point, at Lake Wonboyn.
We used the services of Simon Buckley (Ph 03 5158 0109) and his boat the Porkie Bess to cross Mallacoota Inlet to start the hike
We had access to water near all of our camps (Wau Wauka, Little River, Merrica River).
A few of us had tic issues. Using sharp-pointed tweezers close to the skin and gently but firmly pulling out the little buggers , was the most effective removal technique.
We conquered Howe Hill!
The Iron Prince area of the shoreline was magnificent
We saw lots of whales and dolphins.

Availability of water seems to be dependent on second night location. We walked first to Lake Ballacoota, nice spot and water, but that meant second night was near Lake Nadgee which meant picking up water at the Bunyip Hole, which is not reliable during summer.
