Hi everyone,
Shell and I headed out for a day trip on Saturday.
Poor planning on my behalf meant we underestimated both the terrain and the distance.
Combined with the weather and Shell rolling her ankle it ended up being a tough day out.
19km in nine hours and some lessons learnt.

That ankle looks nasty, although it seems to be more bruising than inflammation. Has she had any medical attention?

Just bruising.
She ran on it this morning.
I didn't even bother trying to argue with her.

Nice walk and photos. Thanks! Love walking in misty rain.
That's a pretty impressive bruise! All I can say is that she is a pretty tough gal to run with it. She really should rest it. That amount of blood (bruise) didn't come out of nowhere.

Nice report and photos. That bruise does look angry - maybe some ice and elevation? And yes, rest if possible (but I understand the enthusiasm).
Although doable that walk would be a challenge (for me) as a return day trip. Personally I would only consider doing it as an overnighter from Vic Falls, or a one way day trip. If you wanted to "finish" the trip to Blue Gum Forest you could always go in via Pierces Pass, since that junction was the turnaround point. It's a steep-ish track but not difficult and BGF return is easily done in a day or less.

Hell, you both pack heavy for a day trip...hate to see what's on your back for a 3 nighter!

Pack the same.
We always pack for a few nights.
You just never know where a trail might take you

Yep, fair enough too. Looks like you have a great time on your walks, keep it up!
