Hannels Spur 20-21 Dec

It was high time to attempt this route, but we cheated and did it down (ostensibly for the teenagers and tween but in all honesty, it was probably better for us parents too). We started at Cascades, walked up to Crackenback then Kosi before dropping down to Wilkinson's Ck to camp. Fair bit of toilet waste around but otherwise beautiful. I'd not been down this way in summer before. The next day we headed west briefly before rounding over Abbotts Ridge and down onto Hannels Spur proper. Once below the tree line it was a gravely, slidy, toe bruising slog, but well marked - someone's gone to a lot of effort with shiny orange arrows every few hundred metres. There's a lot of fallen trees though that make it briefly unclear at times. Hot and exposed to the western sun (even through the scrub), but plenty of water in the creeks when you got to them. Track was hardest to follow once down on the flats with branches going off everywhere... but there was less scrub there. Mostly. Glad to have finally done this route. Clearly, it's now been in the news a lot recently. NB: The stickler in me wants to put an apostrophe in Hannels, but all maps I have show no apostrophe!
