Putting SAR in perspective - 6000m in, 1000m down

German SAR team is trying to recover an injured caver in the Alps. 6000m into the cave system and 1000m below the surface. Sounded tougher than rescues off Mt Everest.

I thought the same, GPSG.
A certain caver i once met, mentioned that he, while on a trip to Canada, got involved in a body retrieval from deep inside a cave, in winter. Helicopters were constantly shuttling cavers back and forth for needed rests away from the cave. And all people had to hang up their crampons and ice-gear at the entrance located on the face of a mountain, prior to entering.

Have to be a nightmare of an operation to get a body out let alone try to be gentle with a head injury

Amazingly, the man has been extracted after 12 days! Monumental!
