A little more detail from the ABC. Apparently he has a pack, but police don't know what he is carrying, ie how much water?
"The 18-year-old was last seen on Upshot Station, 130 kilometres south-west of Longreach, on Tuesday afternoon."

Surely he was on a road since he was out running so was he LOST lost as in bushwached or just sort of turned around a bit and thirsty?

it says they are using the money to donate to search and rescue..
