bear in mind Te Araroa wasnt made solely as a walking trail, its supposed to link historically important areas of nz.. it bypasses most of the best bushwalking in NZ. theres road bashing involved and a lot of farmland to be walked over, and it can be monotonous. it was planned by a journalist.
i've met a few people who have been disappointed by the trail. americans rate it as much harder than any of their own long distance trail including the Continental divide Trail which has a harder reputation than the others..
i can't say i'm fussed about doing it. most of it goes over land i wouldnt bother travelling to walk on... the north island particularly. i'm not that fussed about trying to walk the length of nz on that trail. some people make their own trail and deviate to do the areas they want to do...
from the land of the long white clouds...
