Emergency gear from "Found objects"

Chucking stuff in the bin this morning and I noticed that the biscuit wrapper I was throwing out was semi transparent , put it to my face and I can see though it but blocked out a lot of light. It now sits on my desk with a strip of duct tape on the short edges and a bit of elastic string tied on quickly through a nail hole in the duct tape. Total cost about 20 cents, time taken 5 minutes and I now have 2 emergency snow goggles for my winter first aid kit in case I loose or meet some-one who has lost their sunglasses. Not perfect but still cheap and effective.
Anybody else done similar?

I had to laugh out loud over this. We are a strange bunch aren't we?

I sit here surrounded by people with ties and bad attitudes and yet people on a forum I check daily are using biscuit wrappers for glasses...!

I always take a length of paracord in case my boot laces snap.

You're not alone with the containers: I have a whole cupboard full. Plastic vitamin containers, bigger twist-top containers - you never know when you'll need them right?

Yeah, I've been eyeing off my grandsons "squeeze bottle" dinners. I must have a closer look next time to see if they can be cleaned out.
Could be good for "secret herbs and spices" for the bush cooked dinners.

Me too on the vitamin, fish oil, medication etc. containers.
It doesn't show much imagination but I dose out a few days of various concoctions that I have to take and then put them in old containers.

Swispers breast milk storage bags are also excellent if for single use, as they are strong and have a double seal.

Small piece of bike inner tube for the emergency fire. Kind of fits the bill, free and only on the way to the tip

Bike inner tube is great, its what the Americans refer to as ranger bands which are basically a heavy duty rubber band. I have one holding a ferro rod onto my bushwalking knife.And like you said Scotty, great for emergency fires. You can even get them going with sparks from a ferro rod if you cut up fine enough bits and throw enough sparks at it (not a highly recommended exercise, but possible).
