Canyoning

Postby PeteD » Sun 20 Jul, 2025 3:48 pm

Hey all. I moved over from New Zealand to the Gold Coast a year ago and have been getting into canyoning. I have spent a lot of time scrambling around mountains in NZ but new to canyoning. Anyone on here at a similar level and want to get out on some missions? Or someone more experienced that can show me the ropes? Thanks!

I'd suggest trying on one of the Australian Canyoning FB groups to look for contacts.

Northern Rivers Bushwalking Club, just over the border has occasional forays, explorations & training days...and as Tom mentions there's a couple FB groups covering Northern Nsw & SE Qld.

Mountain views are good for my soul...& getting to them is good for my waistline !

SEQ has plenty of issues with parks and abseiling bans.
South of the border has much more options!
Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful.

I have only ever come up with three even remotely 'Canyoning' options in SEQ. None of them are anything like the choices you have in the Blue Mtns.
I don't make anything of them because they all involve passing through either private land or conservation areas.
They each have logistical drawbacks and its simply best left to others to find their own way to do them. I'm sure they will never gain any real notoriety or offer anyone the experience their probably hoping for.
Ever on the search for a one ended stick.
