Recognising other forum members

These will probably rust, and I can't imagine that a simple pin will keep it well attached to a pack during a scrub bash (or even leaning the pack against a tree), but I've added them to the online Bushwalk Australia shop:



So if anybody really wants such an identifier sooner rather than later and can't think of (or doesn't want to) any other way to do it, these are available for purchase NOW as both individual purchase or as a 10 pack.

A whistle is an excellent idea - certainly more useful. Even a flag, tie, or tag would probably be better than this button, but the button is available right now, if anybody is really that keen.

I see only one issue with the button and that is that it is small (1"dia).
Should it be worn in a cetain location to avoid appearing to be gorking at folks?
I still like the yellow cord, strip because it can be seen without appearing to be gorking/scrutinising people as we pass.
I guess I am saying it needs to be obvious but not a beacon!

They also do a 3.5" and a 2.5" button which I could add. I just thought people would prefer the smaller one.

Thanks for making up a button, but I personally think a coloured tag or rubber armband is better, as you can attach it anywhere (via a cord or a biner). I don't like making holes in things with badges, I find they rip off especially if it's on clothing and I am removing a pack etc, and they rust. I think it needs to be a distinctive colour too.
I think the abbreviated logo is great!

I met a forum member while camped beside a river on a kayaking trip in Nepal. We got talking, found out he was an Aussie, and that he had been to Tassie, had even been up feder.. a few things clicked into place and I recognized who he was, on the forums that is..

Another idea i have prototyped in the photo here. It is a small tag (the size of half a credit card snapped long ways - don't try it with your own CC)
This one is just a laminated piece of paper and cut by hand -- it would last about 10 seconds on an actual bushwalk.

it has two slots so it threads onto a 1 inch tap (the size of most straps on your pack).
you could have one at the front and one back of your pack to ID yourself from the forum. But it is still pretty subtle so as not to draw to much attention.

I have priced up getting a few hundred printed and cut out of the same plastic CC are made from.

I am happy to organise this if there is enough people wanting them. I am chatting with a few sponsors who may want to stick an ad in the postage envelop to keep the price down. Do you think there would be about 200 people who would be willing to pay about $2 to have two tags posted to them?? (seems like a lot of people to me??)

Thoughts on the idea??

Can I suggest a possible improvement to have a slot cut into each end, so can be attached to any strap (and not just removable ones)? Although this might require construction from a more rigid material. Like this:

I think that's a great idea Matt. I'd certainly pay a copuple of bucks for it. To be even more subtle the site name could be left off and just the footprints used.

Strider -- I like the idea of the slots -- I can try mocking that up with the same type of plastic and see if it is strong enough.
Lindsay -- I would think that might be too subtle (just having the book prints and not the bushwalk.com bit)?? not sure - can have a play with it.
Wayno -- love it -- Maybe I can make it double sided - so you can flip it depending on the mood

I like the idea of a slot as well. Double sided sounds fun. Perhaps the 'keep away' side could be bright red? I'd get 2-4.
