New Adventure Therapy Program

Hey guys!
We're starting a new adventure therapy program for young people struggling with behavioral and emotional issues. We have mapped out a section of the Heysen to walk on, ideally starting in at the North end and hiking to each site for a night. We're hoping for 12 nights total, walking anywhere from 7 to 15 Ks a day, 20 is ok too if necessary.

I'm really interested if anyone has any other ideas of great places to walk that are secluded and excited. Any information would be really helpful. Also, if anyone would like to join our team let us know!!

Thanks guys!

Will

Hi Will
This is a fantastic venture, well done and I hope it will be very rewarding for everyone involved.
Just wondering what kinds of work you will be doing with the participants for mental health.
Being outside in the fresh air and sunshine walking in nature sure is the best therapy you can get :D
Cheers
Terra

It's funny timing that you have posted here. I was just on your website late last week checking it out. I think you posted it on a friend's fb page.

I'm not sure why exactly you first posted. Was there a question in there?

Best of luck to you.

Hey guys
Our staff team has all been trained in working with young people and their mental health. Although we can't work with clients who have severe and persistent mental health issues without a doctor approval, we still implement supportive group sessions, individual case management, counselling, and a family program all in the context of adventure therapy expeditions and sufficient follow up programs.

I put this post up because I was curious whether or not anyone knew of lands that we could walk on that were really great for a remote expedition. But I'm also keen to hear from anyone interested in working with us or just hearing cool ideas.

Thanks!
Will

Have you contacted the Operation Flinders people? I believe they use private property a little further north - around Mt Gill.

Yea I have worked with Operation Flinders a few times now leading some trips for them. I am not really interested in walking on their property. It seems that we'll most likely be walking along the Heysen Trail to start with. Good idea for a 14 day expedition? I'm from the states so I'm still learning about the codes and policies regarding leading trips in SA.

Have you been in touch with the Melbourne based group Outdoors Inc who run similar activities?
